Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

What is platelet rich plasma (PRP) for the hair? As we age, our bodies experience global change and when it comes to our hair that can mean a variety of different things. From thinning hair to hair loss and brittleness, our hair begins to exhibit the damage from heat styling, UV exposure, and other lifestyle aggressors. Previous treatment or preventative/corrective therapies included supplements, minoxidil or even hair transplants, but these options were either not compelling, provided results only during use or were too invasive. So for many of us, we have just let our hair age, and while there’s nothing wrong with this philosophy a new generation of hair loss treatment has allowed us to reexamine our approach.

You may have heard of platelet rich plasma, commonly referred to as PRP, used in other fields of medicine like orthopedics for joint repair but did you know it can also help your hair regrow to be fuller, softer and more youthful?

PRP supports the body’s natural regenerative processes by providing a concentration of your body’s own natural growth factors to stimulate follicular activity and restore the natural hair regrowth cycle.

How Does Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) For Hair Work?

This quick, non-invasive treatment is done in the office and has zero downtime! To begin, your blood is drawn and then hyper-concentrated in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma protein from red blood cells. This concentration is then used to treat an area that requires rejuvenation and renewal. For hair loss treatment, this involves a series of injections into the scalp. You can learn more about how this procedure is done through our exclusive video with Dr. Kline. You will need a series of short treatments over the course of 5-6 months.

What Are The Results

The results are astounding! Most patients begin to see noticeable hair regrowth in 3-7 months with full results after 9 months of treatment. Our patients have noticed new hair regrowth in areas that have been thinning for years or that had had no active growth in a while. In addition to improved coverage and individual hair density, our patients notice that the overall quality of their hair improves and becomes more youthful. This includes softer strands, stronger hair fibers, and a renewed vibrancy. The best part is the results build upon themselves since this treatment kickstarts the bodies own natural hair cycle. Patients who plan hair transplantation will have more viable areas for hair regrowth and need fewer hairs transplanted.
