Microneedling 101 and 3 Treatment Methods at Kline Dermatology

Fewer procedures are more popular (or inspire more patient questions!) than microneedling treatments. Whether you’ve read about them in Vogue or Allure, seen influencers post about them on Instagram or whether they have been recommended to you by your aesthetician or dermatologist, microneedling (also called collagen induction therapy) is the latest non-invasive facial treatment the aesthetic community can’t stop talking about.

And for good reason. Microneedling takes your standard facial or other low-downtime treatment to a new level by enabling deeper skin benefits that last longer (and are even safe during the summer!). It also offers patients the opportunity to address a broader range of skin concerns and needs including acne scarring, pigmentation, and fine lines. The key is in its mechanism of action.

What Is Microneedling And How Does It Work?

By using a device called a Dermapen or Rejuvepen, a tool with tiny adjustable needles at the tip, microneedling involves penetrating the top layer of the skin to a controlled depth of between 0.5 and 2.5 millimeters. The micro-punctures and small wounds it induces stimulate your skin’s natural healing response, a process that tells your skin’s fibroblasts to create more collagen. More collagen leads to a new, smoother and thicker layer of skin with improved texture. It’s your skin, but better, with a healthier glow, you’ll enjoy for weeks.

Microneedling Treatments And Combination Procedures

Most practices will combine the mechanical process of microneedling with a topical formulation like an anti-aging serum or PRP (your blood’s own concentrated platelet rich plasma). Why? Because the microscopic wounds in the skin caused by microneedling create temporary micro channels in the skin allowing for improved product delivery and deeper skin penetration that boost results.

Why Different Types Of Microneedling Treatments Are Needed For Different Patients

While a basic microneedling treatment is beneficial for all skin types, our practice is focused on offering patients treatment plans that best suit their unique skin type and skin needs and which will deliver the best possible results by combining treatment modalities. Some patients who struggle with lax skin, for example, may benefit more from a microneedling series combined with a Skin Tyte® treatment. A patient with acne, on the other hand, will see better results by combining microneedling with a soothing and rehydrating HA topical.

Micro Needling 3 Ways: Only Available At Kline Dermatology

  1. Microneedling + PRP

A session of microneedling is followed by the facial application of your own platelet rich plasma (PRP). This involves drawing your blood and hyper concentrating it in a centrifuge machine to separate out the plasma. The PRP is rich with growth factors which help amplify the healing and skin correction process for impressive skin correction you can see and feel.

Great for: Patients combating deep-set sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots and rough skin texture. For best results: Recommended as a series of 3 but some results will be visible after just one session.

  1. Microneedling + Skin Tyte®

A session of microneedling is followed by a Skin Tyte, a pulsed light laser treatment that helps improve mild to moderate skin laxity.

Great for: Patients looks for improved skin firmness, subtle facial re-contouring and a tightened, lifted look. For best results: Recommended as a series of 3 but some results will be visible after just one session.

  1. Microneedling + HA

A session of microneedling is following by a topical hyaluronic acid (HA) formula to plump and refresh the skin.

Great for: Patients looking to brighten tired, dull skin. For best results: Recommended as a series of 3 but some results will be visible after just one session.
